Chapter 7 Shloka 23

अन्तवत्तु फलं तेषां तद्भवत्यल्पमेधसाम्।

देवान्देवयजो यान्ति मद्भक्ता यान्ति मामपि।।२३।।

However, the fruit aspired for

by these men of inferior understanding

is transient. Those who worship the deities,

attain those deities. My devotee attains Me.

Chapter 7 Shloka 23

अन्तवत्तु फलं तेषां तद्भवत्यल्पमेधसाम्।

देवान्देवयजो यान्ति मद्भक्ता यान्ति मामपि।।२३।।

Bhagwan continues:

However, the fruit aspired for by these men of inferior understanding is transient. Those who worship the deities, attain those deities. My devotee attains Me.

Little one, the Lord has just clarified that those who aspire for the fruit of desire, worship the deities with faith. Thus they attain their aspired fruit which has already been written in their destiny by the Lord. The desired fruit has already been reserved for them by the Supreme, yet they mistakenly labour under the illusion that they have procured it through their worship of the particular deity whom they invoked. The Lord now says that such fruit, attained by those men of little wisdom, is transient.

Alpmedhasaam (अल्पमेधसाम्)

Such people do not understand that:

a) The individual’s destiny has already been determined.

b) All worldly attainments are perishable.

c) The body, too, is destructible and will be annihilated some day.

d) If the body is perishable, then all that is attained by that body will cease to be when the body is no more. Parting is inevitable with all gross objects of the world. Then why be unhappy?

e) Such people do not recognise that Eternal, Indestructible, ever Blissful Self.

f) They do not know the intrinsic secret of joy.

g) They do not worship the Lord’s innate Essence through which they could be established in the Atma Itself.

h) Thus they squander the eternal and immortal fruit in order to attain that which is transient and destructible.

Worship of the Supreme procures a fruit that is opposite to the fruit obtained through worshipping the deities or devtas.

Worship of the devtas

Worship of the Supreme
1. Augments desire. 1. Annihilates desire.
2. Increases discontent. 2. Grants satiation.
3. Increases craving and greed. 3. Annihilates desire and avarice.
4. Builds expectation and hope. 4. Eradicates all expectation.
5. Is ego inflationary. 5. Subjugates the ego.
6. Augments attachment. 6. Leads to detachment.

The Lord therefore says, “Those who worship Me, attain Me”, which means they are invested with attributes of the Supreme.

अध्याय ७

अन्तवत्तु फलं तेषां तद्भवत्यल्पमेधसाम्।

देवान्देवयजो यान्ति मद्भक्ता यान्ति मामपि।।२३।।

भगवान कहते हैं :

शब्दार्थ :

१. परन्तु उन अल्प बुद्धि वालों का यह फल नाशवान् है।

२. देवताओं को पूजने वाले देवताओं को प्राप्त होते हैं।

३. मेरे भक्त मेरे को ही प्राप्त होते हैं।

तत्व विस्तार :

नन्हीं! अभी भगवान कह कर आये हैं कि सकामी पुरुष, श्रद्धायुक्त होकर देवताओं के पूजन की चेष्टा करते हैं और उन देवताओं से वही इच्छित फल पाते हैं जो भगवान पहले ही उन जीवों की रेखा रूपी विधान में उनके लिये निश्चित कर चुके हैं।

यानि उन्हें वह वांछित विषय मिलना ही होता है किन्तु वे समझते हैं कि उन्हें उस विषय की प्राप्ति पूजित देवता के कारण हुई है। अब भगवान कहते हैं कि उन अल्प बुद्धि वालों का फल नाशवान् है।

‘अल्प बुद्धि’

वे लोग यह नहीं समझते कि,

क) जीव का विधान पहले ही बन चुका है।

ख) जो भी सांसारिक विषय मिलेंगे, मिट जायेंगे।

ग) उनका तन ही नश्वर है और मिट ही जायेगा। जब तन ही नश्वर है, तो जो भी इस तन को मिलेगा, वह तन के साथ ही ख़त्म हो जायेगा। स्थूल विषय पाने के पश्चात उनसे वियोग निश्चित है, तो दु:ख होगा ही।

घ) वे लोग अमर, अव्यय, नित्य आनन्द स्वरूप को नहीं जानते।

ङ) वे सुख के निहित रहस्य को नहीं जानते।

च) वे भगवान के स्वरूप को नहीं भजते जिसके भजन के फलस्वरूप उन्हें नाश रहित आत्म तत्व में स्थिति मिल सकती है।

छ) वे अनन्त तथा अमर फल को गंवाकर नश्वर फल को पाते हैं।

परम पूजन तथा देवता पूजन का फल विपरीत होता है।

देवता पूजन :

परम पूजन :
1. चाहना वर्धक है। 1. चाहना वर्जक है।
2. अतृप्ति वर्धक है। 2. नित्य तृप्त बना देता है।
3. कामना और लोभ का वर्धक है। 3. कामना और लोभ का वर्जन करता है।
4. आशा वर्धक है। 4. आशा वर्जक है।
5. अहंकार वर्धक है। 5. अहंकार वर्जक है।
6. संग वर्धक है। 6. निरासक्त बना देता है।

भगवान कहते हैं कि ‘मेरी पूजा करने वाले मेरे को ही पाते हैं,’ यानि, वह परम गुण सम्पन्न हो जाते हैं।
