Chapter 9 Shloka 12
मोघाशा मोघकर्माणो मोघज्ञाना विचेतस:।
राक्षसीमासुरीं चैव प्रकृतिं मोहिनीं श्रिता:।।१२।।
Those ignorant people who sustain
vain hopes, vain efforts and vain knowledge
have a mindless, demonic and evil, beguiling nature.
Chapter 9 Shloka 12
मोघाशा मोघकर्माणो मोघज्ञाना विचेतस:।
राक्षसीमासुरीं चैव प्रकृतिं मोहिनीं श्रिता:।।१२।।
The Lord now says, “Listen Arjuna! I shall now explain why I remain unrecognised”:
Those ignorant people who sustain vain hopes, vain efforts and vain knowledge have a mindless, demonic and evil, beguiling nature.
Little one, first understand the status of those who possess a demonic and fiendish nature.
1. They are filled with desire, greed and craving.
2. They are full of ego, pride and vanity.
3. They are fraught with conceit, ill temper and corruption.
4. Their lives are predominantly filled with raag and dvesh – excessive attachment and repulsion.
5. They are inimical, critical, fault finding, caustic, ever agitated and possessed of a sharp tongue.
6. They are ungrateful, merciless and filled with hatred.
7. They are unjust, venomous and quarrelsome.
8. They are shameless, spiteful and deceitful people.
9. They reject all and are filled with all demonic attributes.
They hurt, torment and degrade others for the fulfilment of their own desires and cravings. They want others to serve them. They wish to annihilate other peoples’ very existence from the face of the earth! They seek to be worshipped by others and desire only self establishment. They cannot even see who gets ruined in the bargain. They cannot acknowledge the greatness of another, nor recognise their own inferiority. So proud are they that they equate themselves with the Lord Himself!
a) They believe that they hold others in the palm of their hand!
b) “We are of high birth! We are mighty! We are wealthy! We give to the world!” This is their mistaken belief.
c) They think that they know everything and consider others to be fools.
d) “Everything is in our hands. We can destroy whomsoever we wish! We have killed that one….we will kill this one” – such is their arrogant claim.
How can such ignorant fools recognise the Lord?
1. The Lord is always hidden behind a very ordinary exterior.
2. He is the humblest of all.
3. He is almost as ordinary as a common servant.
4. Yet He dons an arrogant demeanour before those who are proud.
Only that one can perceive the Lord, who:
a) turns his eyes towards the ground instead of looking up to the skies;
b) keeps his eyes lowered in humility;
c) lifts the veil of pride and then witnesses the Lord;
d) looks towards his own feet!
In the present day world, even those who possess great knowledge develop pride in that knowledge; they take pride in their external form, their qualities, their goodness and their beliefs, and are blinded by all these. Such people can never know the Lord. In fact, they will always try to prove the Lord to be ignorant and foolish. And That mischievous Lord takes up cudgels with these very arrogant and egoistic ‘know-alls’!
अध्याय ९
मोघाशा मोघकर्माणो मोघज्ञाना विचेतस:।
राक्षसीमासुरीं चैव प्रकृतिं मोहिनीं श्रिता:।।१२।।
अब भगवान कहते हैं, ‘सुन अर्जुन! मैं बताऊँ, कि वे क्यों नहीं पहचानते मुझे?’
शब्दार्थ :
१. व्यर्थ आशाओं वाले,
२. व्यर्थ ज्ञान वाले,
३. व्यर्थ कर्मों वाले,
४. यह अज्ञानी जन, विचारहीन राक्षसी और आसुरी, मोहने वाले स्वभाव को धारण किये हुए हैं।
तत्व विस्तार :
नन्हीं! आसुरी और राक्षसी स्वभाव वाले लोग कैसे होते हैं, पहले यह समझ ले।
1. काम, लोभ, चाहना से भरपूर लोग,
2. अहंकार, दम्भ, दर्प से चूर लोग,
3. अभिमान, क्रोध, व्यभिचार पूर्ण लोग,
5. वैरी, निन्दक, समालोचक, दोषदर्शी, तीक्ष्ण, कटुवादी, नित्य कुपित लोग,
6. कृतघ्न, निर्दयी, घृणापूर्ण लोग,
7. अन्यायी, वैमनस्यपूर्ण, कलहकारी लोग,
8. निर्लज्ज, ईर्ष्यापूर्ण, कपटी लोग,
9. सबका तिरस्कार करने वाले लोग, आसुरी गुण सम्पन्न होते हैं।
अपनी तृष्णा पूर्ति के लिये ये सबको तड़पाते हैं, तरसाते हैं, गिराते हैं। ये सबको अपना चाकर बनाना चाहते हैं, ये सबकी हस्ती मिटाना चाहते हैं। ये अपनी पूजना और स्थापति चाहते हैं। किसकी तबाही राहों में हुई, यह देख नहीं पाते, कौन श्रेष्ठ, कौन न्यून है, यह समझ नहीं पाते हैं। इनमें गुमान इतना है कि ये अपने आपको भगवान मानते हैं।
क) मानो इनके हाथ में इन्सान है, यह वे मानते हैं।
ख) हम कुलीन, हम महान् हैं, हम धनवान् हैं, हम जहान को सब देते हैं, यह वे मानते हैं।
ग) वे सोचते हैं, ‘हम सब जानें,’ तथा औरों को मूर्ख मानते हैं।
घ) ‘सब कुछ हमारे हाथ में है, हम जिसको चाहें तबाह कर दें। हमने इसे मारा है, इसे मारेंगे,’ ऐसा गुमान वे करते हैं।
अजी! ऐसे विमूढ़ अज्ञानी जन भगवान को क्या पहचानेंगे? क्योंकि भगवान तो,
1. अति साधारण भेष में होते हैं,
2. अतीव झुके हुए होते हैं,
3. अतीव साधारण चाकर रूप में होते हैं,
4. गुमानियों के सामने वह गुमान रूप धर कर आते हैं।
उन्हें तो वही जान सकता है जो :
क) आकाश की ओर से दृष्टि हटा कर धरती की ओर देखे।
ख) जो अपनी नज़र झुका कर देखे।
ग) अपने अभिमान का घूँघट उठा कर जो उन्हें देखे।
घ) जो अपने चरणों की ओर देखे।
इस आधुनिक दुनिया में तो महा ज्ञान पाये हुए लोग भी ज्ञान अभिमानी हुए, रूप अभिमानी हुए, गुण अभिमानी हुए, गुण मान्यता तथा साधुता अभिमानी हुए अन्धे हो जाते हैं। ये लोग भी भगवान को नहीं पहचानेंगे। बल्कि ये तो भगवान को मूर्ख ही ठहरायेंगे और नटखट भगवान टक्कर भी केवल ज्ञानियों और अहंकार पूर्ण लोगों से लेंगे।
