Chapter 9 Shloka 9

न च मां तानि कर्माणि निबध्नन्ति धनञ्जय।

उदासीनवदासीनमसक्तं तेषु कर्मसु।।९।।

Imparting knowledge of His Essential Being to Arjuna, the Lord says:

O Arjuna! Those actions do not bind Me since I am devoid of attachment as one unconcerned.

Bhagwan states:

1. “It is I who bestows the fruits of actions to the entire world.

2. I create the whole world.

3. I am the Creator of the wealthy and the poverty stricken.

4. I give both happiness and sorrow.

5. I create all circumstances.

6. I am the creator of great wars.

7. I create all situations of the world in accordance with the fruits of actions.

8. It is I who, so to say, fills life into the seeds of the fruits of action.

9. I fill life therein and enliven them in a mortal frame.

Yet, I Myself am not bound by action. I am ever unaffected and blemishless. I am uninfluenced by all. I embody yagya, I am the epitome of Truth Itself, I am unwavering Justice, because I am ever unaffected.

1. People ruin My world.

2. They never think of Me.

3. They misuse My Name.

4. They perform all sorts of evil acts in My name.

5. They take My name, yet they are attached to the untruth.

6. They are inimical even towards each other.

Yet I say nothing to them, for I am not attached to the very world I have created. I have no desire. I mould Myself in accordance with what people desire of Me. I do not break others’ beliefs. I have given full freedom to everybody and I do not even give advice except when asked.

Despite being a witness to all the happenings of the world,

1. I remain indifferent towards Myself.

2. I remain ever silent towards Myself.

3. I do not bear enmity towards anyone.

4. I am devoid of meum, moha and ego. Therefore all people know Me to be Silence Itself.

I do everything for everybody, yet perhaps one in a million knows Me. That one is dear to Me – yet I do no injustice to anyone else either. Therefore deeds do not bind Me.

Arjuna, you too must do the same. Then you too will be free from the bondage of action.”

Little one, just as one who abides in the Atma is not attached to action, so also when the Lord takes birth, He too, is devoid of such attachment. Just as when the Lord descends to the world in human form He identifies with the other’s thought processes and the other’s state, so also in His universal aspect, He creates circumstances in accordance with the other’s actions. It has been oft repeated before, that what you consider to be the truth will be given to you by the Lord some day. Similarly, any individual entity who comes before the Supreme Brahm, finds before him a form that corresponds to his own.

1. He is a great egoist when confronted by an egoist.

2. The evil deem Him to be evil.

3. To the bad tempered He seems to possess a vile temper.

4. He is the epitome of Knowledge Itself when confronted by one who is proud of his knowledge.

5. He is the Embodiment of Love when approached by one who loves.

In His playway method, the Lord thus plays an eternal game. At the end of life one knows that indeed He is the principal player of all that happens in life. He is one with all, Yet He is naught. It is not only difficult, but almost impossible to know Him.

अध्याय ९

न च मां तानि कर्माणि निबध्नन्ति धनञ्जय।

उदासीनवदासीनमसक्तं तेषु कर्मसु।।९।।

अर्जुन को भगवान अपना स्वरूप बताते हुए कहने लगे :

शब्दार्थ :

१. हे अर्जुन उन कर्मों में,

२. आसक्ति रहित और उदासीन के सदृश स्थित हुए मुझ परमात्मा को वे कर्म नहीं बाँधते हैं।

तत्व विस्तार :

भगवान कहते हैं,

क) सारे संसार को मैं कर्मफल देता हूँ;

ख) सारे संसार की मैं रचना करता हूँ;

ग) धनवान और निर्धन, मैं सब रचता हूँ;

घ) सुख दु:ख भी मैं देता हूँ;

ङ) परिस्थितियाँ भी मैं रचता हूँ;

च) महायुद्ध भी मैं रचता हूँ;

छ) यानि, जो कुछ भी संसार में होता है, कर्मफल बीज के अनुसार सब रचता हूँ;

ज) कर्मफल बीज में प्राण मानो मैं स्वयं ही भरता हूँ।

झ) मैं ही प्राण भर कर उन्हें सप्राण तन रूप देता हूँ।

फिर भी मैं कर्मबधित नहीं होता। मैं नित्य निर्लिप्त हूँ, निर्दोष हूँ। मैं सबसे अप्रभावित रहता हूँ। मैं यज्ञमय ही हूँ, मैं सत् स्वरूप ही हूँ, मैं अखण्ड न्याय ही हूँ, क्योंकि मैं उदासीन हूँ।

1. जग में भूत गण मेरी ही दुनिया को ख़राब करते हैं।

2. वह मुझे ही याद नहीं करते।

3. वे मेरे नाम का दुरुपयोग करते हैं।

4. वे मेरा नाम लेकर व्यभिचार करते हैं।

5. वे मेरा नाम लेकर असत् से प्यार करते हैं।

6. वे आपस में भी वैर करते हैं।

फिर भी मैं उन्हें कुछ नहीं कहता। मेरी ही इतनी बड़ी रचना से मेरा संग नहीं है। मेरी कोई चाहना नहीं है। जैसे लोग होते हैं, मैं वैसा ही बन जाता हूँ, किसी की मान्यता नहीं तोड़ता। सबको पूरी आज़ादी दे रखी है मैंने, मैं उनके बिन पूछे कुछ नहीं कहता हूँ।

सब कुछ देखते हुए भी,

क) मैं अपने प्रति नितान्त उदासीन रहता हूँ।

ख) मैं अपने प्रति नितान्त मौन रहता हूँ।

ग) मैं अपने प्रति निर्वैर हूँ।

घ) मैं निर्मम, निर्मोह निरहंकार ही हूँ।

इसलिये लोग मुझे मौन स्वरूप कहते हैं।

मैं सबके लिये सब कुछ करता हूँ, फिर भी करोड़ों में से कोई एक ही मुझे जानता है। वह मुझे प्रिय है, किन्तु फिर भी मैं दूसरों के साथ अन्याय नहीं करता। इस कारण मुझे कर्म नहीं बाँधते।

अर्जुन! तू भी ऐसा ही कर। तू भी कर्म बन्धन से मुक्त हो जायेगा।

नन्हीं! ज्यों आत्म स्वरूप कर्मों से संग नहीं करते, त्यों भगवान जब जन्म लेते हैं तो कर्मों से संग नहीं करते। व्यक्तिगत रूप से जो जैसे आये और जैसा भाव लाये, भगवान वैसे ही बन जाते हैं, त्यों ही समष्टिगत में जैसे कर्म आयें, भगवान इस जीवात्मा के लिये वैसी परिस्थिति रच देते हैं। नन्हीं! ज्यों आपसे अनेक बार कहा है कि जिसे आप उचित मानते हैं, भगवान वही आपको आपके सामने दे देते हैं। इसी नाते तथा इसी विधि जो व्यक्तिगत हुआ, ब्रह्म स्वरूप भगवान के सम्मुख आये, वह वैसा ही रूप धर लेते हैं।

1. गुमानी के सम्मुख वह महा गुमानी हैं।

2. दुष्ट को वह अतीव दुष्ट लगते हैं।

3. क्रोधी को वह अतीव क्रोधी लगते हैं।

4. ज्ञान गुमानी के सामने वह ज्ञान की प्रतिमा हैं।

5. प्रेम करने वाले के सामने वह प्रेम की प्रतिमा हैं।

भगवान तो खेल ही खेल में सबको खेल खिलाते हैं। जीवन के अन्त में हर खेल के मुख्य अभिनेता वह आप होते हैं। वह सब में एक रूप हैं किन्तु वह कुछ भी नहीं हैं। उन्हें पहचानना कठिन ही नहीं, असम्भव सी बात है।
