Chapter 12 Shloka 20
ये तु र्धम्यामृतमिदं यथोक्तं पर्युपासते।
श्रद्दधाना मत्परमा भक्तास्तेऽतीव मे प्रिया:।।२०।।
Those who, imbued with faith
and depending upon Me, partake of
this nectar of the highest dharma,
such devotees are infinitely dear to Me.
Chapter 12 Shloka 20
ये तु र्धम्यामृतमिदं यथोक्तं पर्युपासते।
श्रद्दधाना मत्परमा भक्तास्तेऽतीव मे प्रिया:।।२०।।
The Lord says:
Those who, imbued with faith and depending upon Me, partake of this nectar of the highest dharma, such devotees are infinitely dear to Me.
Look! The Lord has enumerated all the qualities of Truth and says, “If you have these qualities, you are dear to Me.” Let us review those qualities which are imperative for a spiritual aspirant.
1. The devotee dear to the Lord will be free of passion and revulsion.
2. He will consider both honour and dishonour with equal dispassion.
3. He will be ever satiated.
4. He will renounce both desire and attachment.
5. He will relinquish mental turmoil.
6. He will not care about praise or censure.
7. He will be aniket or detached from hearth and home.
Indeed, his home is the Lord Himself!
The Lord elucidates further, “On the practical plane:
1. My devotee is friendly towards all.
2. He forgives even the one who seeks to destroy him.
3. He is compassionate towards all.
4. He does not perturb the minds of the ignorant.
5. He performs deeds in the interest of all without any desire for their fruit.”
Despite such constant practice:
a) Such a one is completely indifferent towards himself.
b) Such a one is devoid of ego and possessiveness.
c) Such a one is shrewd, with a stable intellect.
d) Such a one remains ever silent towards himself.
Indeed, the Lord’s conditions are very difficult – they may well frighten the spiritual aspirant! But shall I tell you a simple method whereby you can attain all these attributes in just a moment? Just take the Lord’s Name. If you have true love for the Lord, you will find nothing difficult. Be sure there is no hypocrisy in your taking of the Lord’s name.
The day you truly love the Lord so much, that you wish to become His servitor, and you decide to give your body, mind and intellect along with your very life breath to the Lord, that is the day when your one heartfelt call to the Lord will bring about the fulfilment of your aspirations
Kamla, listen! Understand the true connotation of the phrase ‘taking the Lord’s Name’.
1. The name of your body is ‘Kamla’. If you take the name of Lord Ram with sincerity, your name will henceforth become ‘Ram’!
2. However you will never call out the name ‘Ram’ before others. Does anyone take his own name?
3. Nor does one take the name of one’s Beloved.
4. The one who loves and the one who is loved, both crave privacy and solitude.
5. Their love is nurtured in solitude.
6. In fact, they do not even let their friends and associates get wind of their love until they are united!
Look!
a) Make the Lord your witness.
b) Converse with the Lord.
c) Try to understand His attributes and qualities.
d) Understand what His love is like.
e) Comprehend the true nature of love.
f) Comprehend the texture of compassion.
g) Witness how the Lord does all this – witness the proof of the efficacy of all these qualities in His life.
If you truly love the Lord, try to become like Him.
1. The devotion of the devotee is selfless.
2. His knowledge is selfless.
3. He seeks only to give his all to his Lord.
4. He does not seek knowledge for himself; he seeks only enough to enable him to give his all to his Divine Beloved. Therefore his knowledge is selfless.
5. Thus his deeds too, are selfless.
What shall we say of such a devotee? In actual fact he does not even yearn for the Lord for his personal satiation. He merely seeks Him in order to give of himself to Him. The true devotee will understand this state, but how will one who is proud of his knowledge understand this love?
Dharma Amrit (धर्म अमृत) – The nectar of dharma
The attributes of the true devotee enumerated by the Lord in this chapter from shloka 13 to 19 constitute the nectar of dharma. He who utilises these qualities in life with faith, depending on the Lord alone, that devotee is indeed dear to the Lord.
Little one, this knowledge, these qualities and such devotion together constitute dharma amrit.
If these qualities embellish one’s life, the individual:
a) will become aligned with dharma;
b) will become dutiful;
c) will engage in selfless actions;
d) will attain the Supreme State;
e) will attain immortality.
अध्याय १२
ये तु र्धम्यामृतमिदं यथोक्तं पर्युपासते।
श्रद्दधाना मत्परमा भक्तास्तेऽतीव मे प्रिया:।।२०।।
भगवान कहते हैं :
शब्दार्थ :
१. जो श्रद्धायुक्त हुए
२. और मेरे परायण हुए,
३. उत्तम धर्म अमृत का अनुष्ठान करते हैं,
४. वे भक्त मेरे को अतिशय प्रिय हैं।
तत्त्व विस्तार :
देख! भगवान ने पूर्ण सत् गुण बता दिये और कह दिया, ‘गर ये गुण तुझ में हैं तो तू मुझे प्रिय है’। पुन: वे गुण देख जो साधक के लिए अनिवार्य हैं।
भगवान का प्रिय भक्त :
क) राग द्वेष रहित होगा,
ख) मान अपमान को तुल्य समझेगा,
ग) नित्य संतुष्ट रहेगा,
घ) चाहना और संग छोड़ देगा,
ङ) मनो उद्विग्नता छोड़ देगा,
च) स्तुति निन्दा की परवाह नहीं करेगा,
छ) अनिकेत होगा।
भाई! उसका घर तो भगवान ही है। फिर भगवान आगे कहते हैं, व्यावहारिक स्तर पर :
1. मेरा भक्त सबसे मैत्री रखने वाला होता है।
2. जो तुझे तबाह कर दे, उसे भी क्षमा कर देना सीख।
3. सारे जहान के प्रति करुणापूर्ण दृष्टि होनी चाहिए।
4. अज्ञानियों में उद्विग्नता मत लाना।
5. सब के कार्य करना और फल की चाहना न करना।
फिर भगवान कहते हैं, ये सब करते हुए,
क) अपने प्रति नितान्त उदासीन रहो।
ख) निर्मम और निरहंकार बने रहो।
ग) स्थिरमति तथा दक्ष बन कर जीना सीखो।
घ) अपने प्रति निरन्तर मौन रहना सीख लो।
हां भाई! बातें तो बहुत कठिन हैं भगवान की। ये सब तो साधक को घबरा देने वाली बातें हैं। पर एक छोटा सा तरीका बताऊं जिससे यह सब एक पल में हो जाएगा! बस राम का नाम लो! यदि भगवान से सच्चा प्यार हो गया, तो कुछ भी कठिन नहीं लगेगा। देख! झूठा नाम मत लेना।
जिस दिन राम से इतना प्यार हो जाए कि केवल राम का चाकर बनने को जी चाहे और प्राण सहित अपना तन, मन, बुद्धि, भगवान को दे सको, उस दिन बस एक बार राम बुला लेना, बस एक बार श्याम बुला लेना, तुम्हारा काम बन जाएगा।
नन्हूं जन्मदायिनी कमला सुन! नाम लेने का अर्थ पुन: समझ ले!
1. तुम्हारे तन का नाम ‘कमला’ है, गर राम का नाम लिया, तो तुम्हारे तन का नाम राम हो जाएगा।
2. पर तुम किसी के सामने अपने लब से ‘राम राम’ नहीं कहोगे।
3. कोई अपना नाम तो नहीं लेता न!
4. फिर कोई अपने प्रियतम का नाम भी नहीं लेता!
5. प्रिया और प्रेमास्पद एकान्त पसन्द होते हैं।
6. उनका प्यार तो एकान्त में पलता है।
7. अजी! जब तक मिलन न हो जाये, वह तो अपने घनिष्ठ सज्जन सम्बन्धी मित्रों को भी पता लगने नहीं देते।
देख!
क) भगवान को साक्षी बना ले।
ख) भगवान से बातें किया कर।
ग) भगवान के गुण समझने के यत्न कर।
घ) समझ, कि उनका प्यार कैसा है।
ङ) समझ, कि प्यार किसे कहते हैं।
च) समझ, कि करुणा किसे कहते हैं।
छ) भगवान यह सब कैसे करते हैं, उनके जीवन में प्रमाण देख।
गर सच ही राम से प्यार है तो तू उनके जैसा बनने के यत्न करेगा।
1. भक्त की भक्ति निष्काम होती है।
2. भक्त का ज्ञान केवल निष्काम होता है।
3. भक्त केवल अपना सर्वस्व भगवान को देने जाता है।
4. वह ज्ञान अपने लिये नहीं मांगता, वह तो इतना ज्ञान मांगता है, जिसके राही वह अपना सर्वस्व भगवान को दे सके; इसलिए उसका ज्ञान निष्काम है।
5. इसी भांति उसके कर्म भी निष्काम हैं।
भाई! ऐसे भक्त की क्या कहें! उसे तो भगवान भी अपने लिए नहीं चाहिएँ। वह तो भगवान को भी अपना सर्वस्व देने गया है। भक्त लोग तो यह स्थिति समझ जायेंगे, किन्तु ज्ञान गुमानी ये प्यार की बातें क्या समझें?
भगवान ने यहाँ श्लोक संख्या 12/13 से 12/19 तक जो भक्त के गुण कहे हैं, वही धर्म अमृत हैं। जो भी श्रद्धावान् होकर और भगवान के परायण होकर इन गुणों का जीवन में अनुष्ठान करता है, वह भक्त भगवान को प्रिय है।
धर्म अमृत :
नन्हीं! इस ज्ञान को, इन गुणों को, इस भक्ति को धर्म अमृत कहा है।
यदि जीवन में यह गुण आ जायें, तो जीव,
क) धर्म परायण हो जायेगा।
ख) कर्तव्य परायण हो जायेगा।
ग) निष्काम कर्मी हो जायेगा।
घ) परम पद को पा लेगा।
ङ) फिर जीव अमरत्व को पा ही लेगा।
ॐ तत्सदिति श्रीमद्भगवद्गीतासूपनिषत्सु ब्रह्मविद्यायां
योगशास्त्रे श्रीकृष्णार्जुनसंवादे भक्तियोगो नाम
द्वादशोऽध्याय:।।१२।।
