"Why seek happiness outside when you are yourself the Eternal fountain of joy?
Give happiness to all who surround you, and you will gain abiding peace."

Earthquakes and Floods in Chamba

In 1995, torrential rains caused the Ravi river to overflow its banks, up to 100 feet higher than normal, wreaking havoc by washing away bridges and roads, destroying homes, lands and villages.

Arpana visited the affected areas to discover the most pressing needs. Funds were raised to distribute foods, clothing, blankets and implements, while means were provided for building 46 shelter-homes.

Tragedy in Kinnaur

Originating from great glaciers in Tibet, the "roof of the world", waters over 30 metres high poured, via the Sutlej River, into Kinnaur District of Himachal Pradesh in the early hours of 30th July, 2000. Desperate warnings to inhabitants enabled most to struggle to higher ground but some were swept away along with homes, lands and dreams.

Arpana sent three missions, one for reconnaissance and two for distribution of relief supplies provided by generous donors.

Caring Hearts Provide Warmth

Compassionate friends overseas learned of the plight of severely disadvantaged families in Tissa District.

Quilts were provided to warm whole families in winter when their uninsulated homes become snow-bound.

Her burden is light

A woman from Jhanjakoti, Tissa District, finds it easy to carry the warm quilt - provided by distant caring hearts - which will protect her family from cold winter nights.
