Planned Participation in the Gram Sabhas

Self-Help Groups make full use of the Village Council Meetings (Gram Sabhas) to solve their common problems. All groups discuss their problems and needs. Then, all groups in a village (under one panchayat) come together to arrive at a consensus on issues to be raised. They nominate their ‘speakers’, write out petitions and get signatures. Members are asked to bring other male members and women to attend the village council meetings. |
Contested Panchayat Elections
Apart from being active in civic and village development through pro-active participation in village council meetings, 8 of the SHG members have contested the Panchayat (village council) election and 4 of them have won. The group members actively took part in the election campaigns.
