Chapter 14 Shloka 1
श्री भगवानुवाच
परं भूय: प्रवक्ष्यामि ज्ञानानां ज्ञानमुत्तमम्।
यज्ज्ञात्वा मुनय: सर्वे परां सिद्धिमितो गता:।।१।।
The Lord says to Arjuna:
I shall again repeat for you the highest wisdom amongst all knowledge, acquiring which all sages have attained supreme perfection.
The Lord’s Compassion
Witness the Lord’s compassion!
a) He employs varied means to impart knowledge;
b) He expands on that knowledge with such great love;
c) He explains the same point tirelessly, again and again;
d) He clarifies that knowledge unasked, innumerable times;
– so that Arjuna may understand.
– so that His friend may comprehend it.
– so that His friend Arjuna, who had sought refuge in Him, may be enlightened somehow.
– so that he may somehow understand Him and His intrinsic Essence.
– so that he may understand His life and His basic core.
– so that he may somehow become the embodiment of bliss.
e) Therefore the Lord explains the Supreme knowledge to Arjuna in several ways.
He now says, “I am giving you this knowledge, knowing which great sages have attained perfection.”
Who is a sage?
1. One who has mastered his mind.
2. One who has transcended the qualities.
3. One who rules over his mind.
4. One who has fully incorporated Truth into his life.
5. One who knows the gunas and is not bound by them.
6. One whose life is established in Truth.
7. One who ever aspires to become the embodiment of the knowledge he has attained.
8. One who aspires to manifest the luminous radiance of Adhyatam.
The life of such a perfect being is the manifestation of Adhyatam.
The Lord is about to narrate that knowledge, acquiring which, the great Rishis of yore became self realised. They who aspired for mastery over the mind, attained such sovereignty; those who aspired for the supreme state of Brahm, attained it; those who had faith in Brahm, merged in That Supreme One.
